This Workshop offers a safe, positive environment where people new to stand up comedy can begin to learn the process. The workshop covers the basics and secrets of writing, rehearsing and performing.  Learn three ways to write jokes. Learn performance technique, and how to turn stage fright into performance power!  Method acting memorization that allows you to remember your show without sounding like a robot!  This class is perfect for first timers, as well as those who want to improve their speaking and presentation skills.  Veteran comics who wish to improve and perfect their writing and performing craft are also welcome.
Class limit: 15

AZ202 - Advanced Stand Up Comedy

Price $300.00

Beginner workshop required. This five session course allows you to take your knowledge and skill and apply it.  You will be onstage every night honing a show that is unique to you.

Class One: Review previous show and create draft for the next one. First timers are given a unique structure that allows their own sense of humor to shine through immediately.

Class Two: Writing session.  The entire class becomes your write and helps you take your ideas and begin to turn them into a show.

Class Three:  Up on stage notebook in hand.

Class Four: Locking down the show and begin to memorize.

Class Five: “Dress rehearsal!” Run through and polish!

Class Six:  Live show.

All shows are taped.

Six session course meets Tuesday 7:00 PM.

AZ203 - Sketch Comedy Class

Like “Curb Your Enthusiasm?”  “The Office?”  The movies “This is Spinal Tap,” or “Best in Show?”

Learn “improvised sketch.” A unique and incredibly fun way to write, rehearse, perform, and think on your feet! From the first night to the live show you will be working your funny and creative muscles while learning craft and technique that you can apply, to a future career as a writer, actor, director, or producer.

Six session course. Final class is a live show! Meets Wednesdays at 7:00 pm.

AZ204 - Improvisational Comedy

Price: $300

Learn the art of improvisation from Dave Thurston, graduate of the world famous Second City conservatory. He has also completed advanced improvisational training at Improv Olympic and the Annoyance in Chicago. He is a 7 veteran performer, director and instructor at Theater 168 where he created the recurring characters, Carl Thompson (half 10 year old boy, half bulldog) Stephon Veardsly (the slightly confused sophomore at ASU) and Baby Moose, the dumbest party animal alive. He is an alumni of ASU’s Barren Mind and Farce Side comedy hour where he wrote and performed the news and played the running role of love struck Johnny No Knees.

As a standup comic Dave has studied under Tony Vicich and regularly features Nation wide. Dave has performed at the Tempe Improv, Celebrity Theater, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, The Comedy Spot, Casinos, The Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, The Del Close Theater, The Family Room, and Second Cities E.T.C. Stage.

Dave has also studied under Mick Napier, Tony Vicich and Michael Gellman. This is an 5 week class and the first class is FREE!
